If You Give a Sophomore a Hamster...

This is my first action project of the year, and it is for the junior humanities course Rhetoric. We've been learning and discussing how to use language effectively to prove a point. We have talked about the rhetorical appeals (ethos, pathos, and logos), rhetorical devices (simile, metaphor, hyperbole, etc), and elements of the rhetorical situation (speaker, audience, occasion, etc). We also had a guest in the classroom, Julia Kline from ILVote. ILVote is a voter registration organization. Julia came in to speak with us about her experience in activism and sales, and about the overlap between the two. Soon after this, our class got to work to out what we learned into practice for the student council elections at our school. We all had to choose a question, and write a two minute response to it. We either wrote it from our own perspectives, or picked another student running for student council to write from the perspective of. I chose to answer a question as a sophomore at my school named ZL. ZL ran unopposed for class representative last year, and no one is running against her this year either. They are a bonding force in he sophomore class, and I thought it would be interesting to imagine what kind of questions a sophomore might ask them. You can watch and read what I came up with below!

We also designed logos for the campaign, and you can see mine below.
