Grapes on Cat. Cat on Shirt. Grapes on Cat on Shirt.
During Winter Term I have been taking the elective class Digital Fabrication. We have learned how to use various programs and machines. We learned how to prepare files for a 3D printer, how to edit images digitally, how to work with SVGs, how to slice files, and how to use a Silhouette cutting machine. For our final project in this class each of my classmates and I branched out in a direction of our choosing to focus on something specific. Some of my classmates worked with 3D printers, laser cutters, and a CNC cutter. I chose to work with a Silhouette vinyl cutter to screenprint a picture of one of my old cats on a shirt.
I started by tracing a picture of my cat, Smokey, with grapes on his head. My mom took the original picture in 2010.
After I finished the file I cut it on the Silhouette cutter and weeded it, before putting it on a screen and taping up the edges.
After that I screenprinted it onto a shirt generously acquired by a GCE staff member.
I also did a few prints onto a sheet of paper.
